Urgent Action Required for Dementia Mate Wareware Support in New Zealand
Dignity, respect, and support for every New Zealander living with dementia.
Dementia mate wareware is one of the biggest and fastest growing health challenges facing Aotearoa New Zealand. Right now, 83,000 New Zealanders are living with dementia mate wareware. By 2050, this number will more than double to 170,000 people — affecting hundreds of thousands of Kiwi families.
Despite this, dementia is still not recognised as a true health priority. Many local dementia services are underfunded and struggling to survive, leaving whānau without the support they need. The Government already has a Dementia Mate Wareware Action Plan, but it is sitting on the shelf without the proper investment to bring it to life.
We are asking you to sign this petition so that Parliament cannot ignore this crisis any longer. By adding your name, you are calling on the Government to:
-
Fund local dementia services fairly so families get the care and support they deserve
-
Properly implement the Dementia Mate Wareware Action Plan
-
Make dementia mate wareware a top health priority in New Zealand
Together, we can ensure every person living with dementia — and every whānau walking alongside them — is heard, valued, and supported.
We cannot afford to wait. The time for action is now.
This petition is backed by the evidence of Alzheimer’s New Zealand and the lived experience of thousands of Kiwis. Together, we urge Parliament to act with urgency and compassion.
✍️ Add your name now and stand with us for urgent dementia mate wareware action.
